2020/11/7 New Polymer Materials Can Help Lithium Battery Self Repair
2020-11-07
Lithium ion battery is notorious for its frequent internal short circuit. Internal short circuit will ignite the liquid electrolyte of the battery, resulting in battery explosion and fire. Recently, engineers at the University of Illinois have developed a polymer based solid electrolyte that can heal after damage and can be recycled without using irritating chemicals or at high temperatures.
The new research, published in the Journal of the American Chemical Society, could help manufacturers produce recyclable, self-healing commercial batteries.
